tapas

Tapas delights are essentially hearty and unpretentious. Based on the imaginative use of seasonal vegetables and local ingredients, tapas flavours are robust and recipes uncomplicated.

The origin of tapas (from the word ‘tapar’ meaning to cover) is twofold. First came the need to prevent insects or other impurities falling into a glass of wine, with smoked ham or cheese placed over the glass. The second tapas story comes from early Spanish history when wise King Alfonso decreed that small quantities of food must be taken with wine to prevent indigestion.

Today, tapas menus have become popular the world over and The Wine Bar Restaurant is no exception, offering simple delights such as goats cheese baked in roast tomato and garlic and local tiger prawns dusted with sumac and infused with lemon.

The good news is that almost any type of wine compliments tapas and given The Wine Bar Restaurant’s extensive wine menu, the choices are only limited by your imagination!
